London City Airport is resolving the security queues

Date: 18/02/2010

London City Airport commenced works two weeks ago to add 2 new security checking lanes to help ease and eliminate search queues at the airport.  The extra two full size lanes will be in operation by the end of February and will bring the total number of lanes to 6.

Richard Gooding OBE, Chief Executive Officer at London City Airport commented: “We recognise passengers are enduring unacceptably long queues at the security checking lanes. We are committed to processing passengers as quickly as possible. We expect the queues to significantly reduce with the new lanes and for normal service to resume.”

Recently the airport has seen an increase in queues resulting from a combination of factors including the heightened security measures introduced by the Department for Transport.  In the interim until the new lanes are functioning the airport has recruited additional security staff.

Passengers travelling through the airport between now and the end of February are advised to allow 45 minutes to clear the security checks.

Reconfiguration works are scheduled to begin this spring to enhance the terminal by further enlarging the security search area and departure lounge creating more space and comfort for travellers.  The airport is investing £7 million into the terminal development which is expected to be completed by the end of 2010.
